I found God in my bedroom
He told me that Heaven is
Right here, that God is
Right here, in every soul
I meet, in every waking
Moment, and in the deepest
Rests and sighs.
I found God in a temple,
White light and streaks
Of golden hues, sunlit
Greenery snaking
Through the
Paneless windows,
The peace radiating
Off of his luscious
Waves.
I found God in a
Queer hookup
When I was 17,
First realizing I too
Would have to shape
My own Heaven,
My own body
No longer fitting
The standard mould.
I found God at first
In a church down the
Street from home,
Singing choir
Of kids as
Young as five
And as old
As ninety,
The same
Enamored look
In their eyes with
Each musing tune.
I found God in a
Hotel bathroom,
Straining for
Love and support
In the withered
State of New Jersey,
The Devil hanging
Over my shoulder.
I found God in
The earthenĀ
Wilderness,
Bunnies moonlit
By her gracious
Strength,
Soft whispers
Of "keep going,"
When I needed
Them most.
I found God in
The hardest of times,
Praying without
A receptionist
To patch me through
To His glory.
I found God in
A solemn funeral
At Nine when I
Least expected
To see Him again.
I found God when
I laid down my sword,
Prayed for rain to
Cleanse the blood
From the chains
Of my enemies.
I found God when
I accepted my fate,
And She held me close
While I cried.
I found God when
I listened to the
Whispers, a silent
Night within.
I found God when
I took a deep breath
And let Them in.
